About

I am a journalist and storytelling consultant. i am a professional listener.

As a reporter, I’ve told stories in just about every form - taken notes while perched atop a rodeo bull; GoPro-ed a hike through the Grand Canyon; texted in stories from gun-control rallies and the Super Bowl; done live TV while ice skating; and hosted weekly storytelling segments on Phoenix's NPR affiliate.

As a reporter, I am a thoughtful writer of in-depth trend and profile pieces, as well as insightful breaking news stories that inform and emotionally engage. I’m always out to surprise and delight, in print, on TV, online or on stage.

In 2011, after 13 years as a reporter, I decided to apply what I'd learned by being super-nosy about people's lives to launch a series of live storytelling nights.

These nights blend the authenticity and hype-free discipline of storytelling as an art form with the truthfulness, community-building and empowerment that's at the heart of great journalism.

As a storytelling consultant, I’ve hosted more than 65 nights of true stories, told live from notables and neighbors as part of the Arizona Storytellers Project, which I founded in 2011.

I believe the stories we tell define us. In telling, we affirm the lessons we've learned. In listening, we deepen our connections to those around us. I can help you make this happen in your life, and in your community.

As a consultant, I work with individuals, businesses and community groups to find, hone and share their most important narratives.

Megan is fearless. She takes chances and learns quickly from her mistakes and successes and gets right back out there.

Megan Finnerty. Super smart, humor as sharp as a razor’s edge, and a professional intuition that is borderline psychic. I’d hate her if I didn’t like her so much.
— Kindra Hall, professional storyteller

Megan is remarkable at being Megan. She is kind and smart and hard working. She is relentless and passionate and interested. She is gracious. She is remarkable at being Megan.
— John Faherty, senior reporter, Cincinnati Enquirer

My Little Peanut is my sparkling dynamo. A call from her opens my heart and mind and inspires me to do and be more, NOW.
